So your ultimate goal is to achieve 2048 points and how to do that? Each family member represents a number, and the numbers go by multiplying the currents number you are matching, so the first family member represents the number 2, the second the number 4, then the number 8, then 16 and so on until you reach 2048. When you merge two family members which represent the number 2, you will get the number 4, if you match two family member which represent the number 32, you will get 64 and so on. 

You need to really pay attention and think through the moves you are taking because you can get blocked if you can't make more moves and merges. Good luck!
