The game puts you in total control of your criminal empire, letting you pursue wealth and chaos at your own pace. Instead of following boring jobs, you can freely explore the city, collect money, and plan daring escapes while avoiding the authorities.
The main objective is to earn money by raiding gang hideouts, “collecting taxes” from pedestrians, or discovering hidden envelopes in alleys. Each dollar earned contributes to your arsenal or vehicle collection, allowing for increasingly elaborate heists. Strategic planning is key, as players must decide when to make a quick getaway, cause a distraction, or go all-in on a high-risk, high-reward mission.
Vehicles play a major role in the game. From quiet clunkers for stealthy operations to flashy sports cars for loud getaways, the city is your personal garage. Swapping vehicles fluidly allows players to evade law enforcement and execute complex escape routes. The game’s mechanics reward creativity in navigation and planning, making every chase an adrenaline-pumping experience.
Combat and weaponry are central to surviving Los Santos. Players can purchase a variety of firearms, from pistols suitable for intimidation to heavy weapons like grenade launchers for all-out chaos. Engaging in shootouts requires quick reflexes and tactical positioning, while also balancing the risk of attracting police attention. The larger the disturbance, the more intense the response from law enforcement, adding a layer of strategy to every decision.
On PC, you can move or drive using the WASD keys. Press the Spacebar to jump or use the handbrake while driving. Use the left mouse button to shoot and the right mouse button to aim. Press the number keys 1 through 7 to switch weapons. Hold the Left Shift key to run, press F to interact with objects, Tab to pause the game, and Q to access weapon selection. On mobile devices, shooting at police is automatic, and all other controls are managed through the on-screen interface elements.
